| How many times do you panic checking the print version of your train e-ticket in your bag? There won’t be any need for it now as long as you have your mobile phone up and running. At the Rail Budget, railway minister Dinesh Trivedi announced that an SMS on the passenger’s mobile phone will not be accepted as a valid proof for his registration. However, passengers will still be required to carry a document proof which could be a voter ID card, passport or a PAN card etc. Well, this is not the end of it. The new Rail Budget also talked about the satellite based real time train information system (SIMRAN). The system will send real time data to the passengers via SMS or Internet and may also include the new 'Book-a-meal' scheme. This will offer passengers multiple meal choices, through SMS, or e-mail. Indian Railways is adopting technology at a fast pace. Earlier this year they unveiled their mobile portal, irctc.co.in/mobile. |
